One of the most popular game of all times will make one of the most awaited comebacks ever. PC fans have been waiting for a sequel to the game for several years and Blizzard will finally make it happen. Protoss, Terran, and Zerg, the three races featured in the game will be revived to feature in the real-time strategy that is StarCraft 2. The news first came up a South Korean site, where, according to a leak, Blizzard will be announcing StarCraft 2 at the World Wide Invitational, on the 19th of May 2007. Making this announcement in South Korea is not unusual, since StarCraft matches are held everywhere, being practically a national sport.
On May 19, 2007in Seoul, revealed StarCraft II, the sequel to the popular real-time strategy, at the 2007 Blizzard Worldwide Invitational event. Thousands participants witnessed the announcement made in the Olympic Gymnastics Arena, while also seeing for the first time a cinematic trailer and a demonstration of how the game is played made by the development team.
The game will feature the three races from the first part, with new units and several innovative game play mechanics, but also classic units that will be making an appearence. "With StarCraft II, we'll be able to do everything we wanted to do with the original StarCraft and more. We recognize that expectations are high following the long-running popularity of the original game, but we plan to meet those expectations and deliver an engaging, action-packed, competitive experience that StarCraft players and strategy gamers worldwide will enjoy, " declared Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.
The official site of the game is up and running, while the version for PC and Mac are in the works.
